The name of Lanzarote is a mystery. Like many other place names, its origin is unknown or uncertain.

It is also called “The Island of the Volcanoes”, “The Fiery” or “Island of Fire”. There are many theories: Berber, Dutch, French, Guanche … But Lanzarote keeps its secret.

It may come from a “broken spear” when the conquistador Juan de Bethencourt had allegedly broken his spear in honor of the pacification of the island. But we must discard this hypothesis since at that time the word “sundered” was used and not “broken”.

The most common theory of the origin of Lanzarote is owed to the Genovese merchant Lancelotto who inhabited the island for 20 years at the beginning of the 14th century.

Many legends have Lanzarote and in Tisalaya Apartments we know many. Do you want to solve them?
