Do you know the origin of the expression “One less in the Canary Islands”?

The year 2019 brings us a great novelty; the end of the change of summer and winter time. After many years of debate, Spain, among other countries, must decide whether to maintain summer or winter hours. And to Canarias, how does it affect us?

In the year 1940 General Franco decided to synchronize the time zone of Spain with that of Germany for affinity and trade issues with his counterpart in the German country.

Since then Spain has one hour less except the Canary Islands that has maintained the normal spindle due to its distance from the Iberian Peninsula.

On television and much more on the radio, it is customary to announce the time and since the appearance of the time zone change, reference is made to the fact that the Canary Islands have one hour less.

In April we will know what definitive schedule Spain will have and also if the Canary Islands continues with its hour less.

Let’s hope that if “one less in the Canary Islands” has become a slogan of the lucky islands.
