La Geria is an area located in the center / south zone that together with Timanfaya, make up the most characteristic landscape of Lanzarote. Its main charm is the unique landscape generated by the cultivation of grapes that became popular in the area as a substitute for the extensive cultivation of rye after the explosion of volcanoes in the eighteenth century.

Faced with the devastating image of seeing their lands devastated by magma, the locals devised a system with which to cultivate in an a priori infertile land. It is about digging some oyos in the ground until finding the original surface. The layer of volcanic stones that cover the environment of each hole performs the function of protecting the soil from solar radiation and also protects the vine from the strong trade wind.

The extension of this practice created an environment that many call “lunar” due to the immensity of small craters that have had to be made to practice this crop.

The Geria is crossed from end to end by the LZ-30 road and has many sidings where you can park the car while we take a picture or enjoy the scenery.

On both sides of the road we can find different wineries where you can dig a good wine, learn a little more about the history of the area.

From Apartamentos Tisalaya you can reach La Geria in just 15 minutes by car. We will recommend good places to stop or enjoy one of the best sunsets in Lanzarote.
